Why Human Design Feels Icky (It's Not Just You)

If Human Design has ever felt weird, icky, or cultish to you, and you're a highly sensitive person picking up on something off, I want to validate that feeling. You're not alone, and you're definitely not crazy.
There's actually a reason for that uncomfortable vibe you're sensing.
The Red Flags You're Picking Up On
When you first encounter Human Design, you'll often see expensive certifications, a white man taking credit for a synthesis of multiple cultural wisdom traditions, guru worship dynamics, and generally culty vibes. I want to validate your feelings and acknowledge that this is absolutely the case with mainstream Human Design.
But here's what I also want you to know: it doesn't have to be this way.
There's actually a beautiful, transformative teaching underneath all of this that unfortunately got corrupted by the very person who brought it earthside.
The Original Transmission vs. The Corruption
The story goes that in 1987, Ra Uru Hu - a washed-up banker living in Ibiza, partying too much - took some unknown substance and had an eight-day, eight-night mystical experience. During this time, a voice gave him all the details of the Human Design system.
Here's the thing about spiritual messengers: sometimes the universe has to pick someone crazy enough to actually carry out the mission. If Ra had more discernment, he probably wouldn't have accepted a random drug from a stranger, let alone tried to teach a system he experienced during a psychedelic journey.
But the problem was his complete lack of spiritual hygiene. He had no boundaries, no ability to discern between different entities or voices. Some say he maintained contact with "the voice" over time through a crystal, but I personally believe something else came in, claiming to be the original voice, and deliberately polluted the system at the source.
How the System Got Corrupted
Originally, Human Design came through as an experiment. There were no prescriptions, no "this is how you're going to be because you have this design." It was simply the elegant mechanics: planets activating gates, energy flowing between centers, definition patterns.
Then, about 10 years later, that wasn't selling well enough for Ra's ego. The prescriptive layers got added:
Type categories that clustered things that don't necessarily belong together
Strategy rules that turned the experimental framework into dogma
Authority hierarchies that put one center above all others
"Follow this or live in resistance" fear-based messaging
It became dogmatic and culty. Ra excommunicated students who dared to question this overbearing approach. If you look at the people who've been doing Human Design the longest, most have separated from the Jovian Archive and formed their own approaches.
Trust Your Intuition
If you're reading this, you're probably highly sensitive. You may or may not know you're psychic, but if you felt something off about Human Design when you first encountered it, your intuition is spot on.
There IS something wrong with mainstream Human Design. But the foundational mechanics - the bones of the system - are incredibly beautiful and potent.
Why This Matters
This is exactly why the system was polluted: because it's so valuable. The original mechanics help us get our own information instead of relying on gurus, cult leaders, or external authorities. It's a way to tune into our own energy and integrate the parts of ourselves that may have been lost along the way.
You can track transits and understand what type of energy you'll have on any given day. You can work with the pure experimental framework without the prescriptive overlay.
That's why I teach Human Design differently. I'm all about the original mechanics, the pure transmission that came through in that eight-day experience, because it has serious power when freed from the corruption.
